The Human Rights office Kandy Sri-Lanka organized a seminar on “Sri Lankan Legal frame work, protecting the Rights of Child” for Priests and Religious in charge of schools, children’s homes and nursery schools in the Central Province, diocese of Kandy on the 01st June 2013, Saturday at St. Anthony’s Cathedral Parish Hall – Kandy.
The Vicar General and the General Manager of schools, Very Rev. Fr. Milroy Fonseka chaired the sessions. The Attorneys-at-law Ms. Ermiza Tegal, Mr. S. P. Padmadakshan, Mrs. Surangika Ranaweera & Mr. Suren D. Perera were the resource persons.
Fr. Nandana Manatunga, the Director of the Human Rights office in Kandy, presented few case studies, setting the background for the resource persons. Attorney, Mr. S.P. Padmadakshan in-turn briefed the participants about the present status of these cases in court.
Ms. Ermiza explained the convention of the Rights of the children and the explained the Sri-Lankan legal frame work in protecting children. A panel discussion followed the presentations and the panel of lawyers answered the questions of the participants.
