Accompany victims & their families to court and monitor the court trials
The defects of the justice system could be identified only by going through the adjudication process. Hence the HRO makes it a point to be present at the court as a group and we evaluate the day’s court proceedings and identify the defects. This helps not only the survivor but also the whole movement to call for reforms, pointing at the defects within the system. It calls for commitment and sacrifice, especially of time as the whole of legal system is maintained by prolonging the adjudication process. Information gathered through monitoring activities are used to raise awareness and advocate for change. Open Trial efforts will focus on four groups: legal system personnel, the legislature, the public, and the media. Every survivor who follows the legal procedure is assisted and accompanied to court both to be a moral support and also to monitor the court procedure. Court monitoring is a process of observing and gathering information on court practices and procedures and a vehicle for promoting improvements in the justice system, thereby reducing the incidence of corruption, violence and human rights abuse within legal systems. Awareness and public trust in the justice system also would improve with court monitoring.
